Afghanistan Activist Fary Moini to Speak at Spirit of the Barrio Luncheon
Robert Santos of KSWB Will Serve As Event Emcee
San Diego, CA- Afghanistan activist and local San Diego businesswoman, Fary Moini, will speak at Family Health Centers of San Diego’s May Spirit of the Barrio luncheon, May 20, 2005, from 12 noon to 1:00 PM. With the assistance of Rotary International and much perseverance, Ms. Moini led successful efforts to build two medical clinics, elementary, middle and high schools, and a village bank in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. For her work, she recently received Lifetime Television’s National “Women Changing the World” Award and was named as one of the “50 People to Watch” by San Diego Magazine.
Robert Santos of KSWB will emcee the event. As a reporter and weekend weather anchor, Mr. Santos has become a well known and respected member of the San Diego news media. Since coming to San Diego in 2000, he has reported on many high profile stories and was named 2002 Reporter of the Year by the Associated Press Television-Radio Association of California and Nevada.

Since 1986, the bimonthly Spirit of the Barrio luncheon has been held to raise funds for capital projects, programs, and services operated by Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD). Hundreds of supporters, including prominent corporate, political, and community leaders, attend each event to enjoy a famous tamale lunch and listen to notable speakers.
