San Diego Padres to Donate $2.50 for Each Seat Sold At Sunday’s Game
San Diego, CA- The San Diego Padres are supporting Family Health Centers of San Diego by designating September 3, 2006 as Family Health Centers of San Diego- Day at the Padres! The team will match all donations to the Padres Challenge up to $200,000 and donate $2.50 for each seat sold at the September 3 Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres 1:05pm game at PETCO Park. Family Health Centers of San Diego exceeded the Padres’ goal and raised over $319,000. The San Diego Padres match brings the Padres Challenge grand total to over $519,000 before the seat match at the game!
“The San Diego Padres are proud to team up with Family Health Centers of San Diego to help children and families without health insurance,” said San Diego Padres Chairman John Moores.
The success of the Padres Challenge was made possible by the generous support of the San Diego Padres, County Supervisors Greg Cox and Ron Roberts, Dr. Joseph Browne, Union Bank of California, Kaiser Permanente, Sharp Health Plan, QUALCOMM, Scripps Mercy Hospital, Nordstrom, California Bank & Trust, Gen-Probe, Northrop Grumman, the South Bay Power Plant, and many individual donors.
“Family Health Centers of San Diego is thrilled that over 100 companies and individuals stepped up to the plate and exceeded the San Diego Padres Challenge goal,” said Jennette Lawrence, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Director of Government and Community Relations. “In addition, every person that attends Sunday’s Padres game will help us raise $2.50 for healthcare for uninsured families.”
Funds raised from the Padres Challenge will be used to renovate and expand Family Health Centers of San Diego’s original and largest clinic, Logan Heights Family Health Center. Logan Heights Family Health Center was founded by community activists in 1970. Today the health center provides care to over 50,000 patients a year; however, the facility is at capacity and must be expanded to meet increasing demand for services. The Padres Challenge donations will help build a new three story, 23,000 square foot building and renovate the existing pediatric, women’s and dental clinics.
Family Health Centers of San Diego is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive, accessible healthcare services to uninsured and medically underserved individuals. In 2005, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s 24 sites provided care to over 100,000 patients through 400,000 patient encounters.
