Local Companies Keep KidCare Express III Mobile Medical Unit On The Road For 2006-2007 School Year
Innovative mobile healthcare helps kids stay healthy and in school.
San Diego, CA- Over 150,000 San Diego children are uninsured, which leads to increased absenteeism and lower academic achievement. Family Health Centers of San Diego’s KidCare Express Mobile Medical Unit program is an innovative solution to this problem. KidCare Express provides comprehensive primary healthcare services at no cost to San Diego kids at their school and in their community. By removing all transportation and financial barriers to care, KidCare Express ensures that San Diego kids get the healthcare services they need, when and where they need them.
The KidCare Express Mobile Medical Unit Program is funded in part by local businesses and organizations. This year, local supporters donated over $90,000 to keep KidCare Express III on the road for the 2006-2007 school year. In recognition of their support, the sponsors’ logos have been incorporated into a kid-friendly design on the outside of the unit.
“KidCare Express III would not be operational this year without strong financial support from our community partners,” said Jennette Lawrence, Family Health Centers of San Diego’s Director of Government and Community Relations. “We are grateful for their commitment to improving the health of San Diego kids.”
KidCare Express III sponsors include: CP Kelco, QUALCOMM, Hitachi, Billy Casper Youth Foundation, The CW, Care 1st Health Plan, the San Diego Downtown Lions Club, and the City of Chula Vista. Funds raised for the KidCare Express Mobile Medical Unit program will be used to provide healthcare to 2,000 uninsured and medically underserved children during the 2006-2007 school year.
Family Health Centers of San Diego is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive, accessible healthcare services to uninsured and medically underserved individuals. The KidCare Express Mobile Medical Unit Program was established in 1998 to serve children and families in their community. Since it began, KidCare Express has provided over 40,000 patient visits to local families.
