Communication Manager, STI

Family Health Centers of San Diego is looking for a communication manager to join our in-house communications team. This position will develop and promote patient-centered educational initiatives. This includes designing understandable and engaging materials and workshops to improve public knowledge and attitudes towards sexual health and STI prevention. Emphasizing respectful, non-discriminatory and patient-centered services is a significant part of the communication strategy.

This position will oversee campaigns, as well as data collection and analysis related to communication efforts, evaluating the effectiveness and make necessary adjustments for continuous improvement. This position is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the program’s benefits are effectively communicated, understood, and utilized by patients and the wider community.

Job Roles

  • Initiates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates public and community health education projects, programs, grants, and studies.
  • Serves as liaison to and coordinates activities with state and local health officials, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Designs, develops, implements, and analyzes results of evaluation tools used to assess the community’s public health education needs.
  • Provides technical assistance and consultation to community agencies, health care organizations, schools, industries, and other community groups.
  • Plans, writes, coordinates and/or edits public health information materials related to assigned program areas for use by the media.
  • Plans, writes, coordinates, and/or edits reports related to assigned program areas.
  • Generate impactful, compelling, detailed content for a variety of internal uses, including instructional/operational memos, internal articles, talking points, company-wide bulletins, intranet pages, executive messaging and presentations, and employee feature articles.
  • Act as a consultant to business partners and project teams to develop internal communication plans and timelines, identifying the right channel for each audience.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand our broader corporate strategy and develop a clear and consistent executive narrative. Craft messaging for a variety of voices from leadership teams, including written materials, talking points, town halls, blogs, and effectively advise them on communications strategy.
  • Produce internal communications, graphic elements and intranet pages for programs and campaigns that support client relationship expansion and drive employee engagement.
  • Create messages, stories and announcements around our Corporate Responsibility and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion efforts.
  • Take direction from multiple stakeholders, balancing numerous projects and assignments simultaneously, while effectively prioritizing strict deadlines.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or marketing preferred.
  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation; proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Licensed for a minimum of 3 years; No more than 2 violations and/or accidents within 3 years; No vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving within 7 years.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

  • Knowledge of AP Style preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Arabic) in written and verbal communications preferred.
  • Demonstrated editing skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
  • Ability to multi-task, be organized and flexible, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-workload environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
    Experience with MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses: 71,386.00 – 101,887.00
This position has the option to work remote, hybrid or on-site.

Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
