Chula Vista, CA — Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) celebrated the opening of new radiology services at its Chula Vista Family Health Center on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by government, philanthropic, and community partners. The radiology expansion was made possible by a generous $556,000 donation from Molina Healthcare of California.

Radiology is one of the highest specialty care referral needs for FHCSD patients. In July 2025 alone, FHCSD providers generated 7,428 referrals for radiology services. Many low-income patients experience months-long waits for imaging due to limited appointment availability. The new expansion in Chula Vista helps address that need by offering mammography, x-ray, and ultrasound services. Uninsured patients may qualify for sliding scale fees based on income.

“This expansion reflects our commitment to removing barriers to care,” said Christopher Gordon, M.D., president of FHCSD. “Offering imaging services through our health centers improves access for Medi-Cal and uninsured patients who may otherwise face cost or scheduling barriers.”

The services are delivered in partnership with Pacific Advanced Imaging – RadNet and are located within Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation’s Lofts on Landis affordable housing community.

“Timely access to imaging services is critical to early detection and diagnosis,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We are proud to support this radiology expansion and partner with FHCSD to increase access to care for Medi-Cal members in the South Bay.”

The Chula Vista expansion is part of FHCSD’s continued effort to bring specialty services directly into its clinics, increasing affordability and reducing delays in care. Imaging services are also available at El Cajon Family Health Center, Logan Heights Family Health Center, Diamond Neighborhoods Family Health Center, and through a Mammography Mobile Screening Unit serving patients throughout San Diego County.
