Family Health Centers of San Diego accepts a wide range of insurance plans, including Medi-Cal and Covered California. All clinics offer a sliding-fee scale based on income and family size, and no one is turned away because of inability to pay.
To keep care affordable, costs are based on household income, number of dependents, insurance status and eligibility for financial assistance. Many patients qualify for free or low-cost health coverage.
Patients who are uninsured, self-pay or unsure about eligibility can receive help applying for coverage, reviewing options and determining discounted fees. Assistance is available during your visit or by phone.

Reduced fee program
FHCSD offers a reduced fee of $25 per visit for patients who do not qualify for health insurance.* This program helps increase access to high-quality, affordable care throughout San Diego County.
*Patients must qualify for the sliding-fee scale based on income and current Federal Poverty Guidelines.
The reduced fee applies to the medical visit only.
Services not covered by the reduced fee
The reduced fee does not include:
- Additional services or tests ordered during the visit
- Mental health services
- Laboratory services, including in-house and send-out labs
- Immunizations, medications and family planning supplies, including IUDs and birth control implants, which are charged at cost
- Special cash-priced services, including OB care and GYN procedures such as colposcopy, biopsy and implant or IUD insertion
- Dental care
- Vision care
- Physical therapy and occupational therapy
- Pharmacy services
- Hospital services
- Ancillary and support services, including PDS, health education, CPSP and counseling visits
