SAN DIEGO, CA – (June 27, 2025) Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) continues its commitment to accessible, community-based care by providing free or low-cost mammograms to qualifying individuals through ongoing events across San Diego County.

So far this year, FHCSD has hosted seven mammogram events, providing 159 screenings to community members — including 21 screenings at their most recent event, held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Hillcrest Family Health Center. These screenings play a vital role in the early detection of breast cancer, which can dramatically improve health outcomes.

To encourage participation, FHCSD has partnered with Sharp Healthcare to offer gift cards to patients who complete their mammograms at these events.

The next event will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the San Diego LGBT Community Center. Community members are encouraged to schedule an appointment here.

In addition, eight more mammogram events are scheduled throughout the remainder of the year, with locations including Logan Heights, Chula Vista and North Park. Several events will occur during the month of October, aligning with Breast Cancer Awareness Month to emphasize the importance of early detection.

“These mammogram events are a critical part of our mission to deliver equitable health care to all,” said Sandra Martinez, manager of patient engagement. “By bringing screening services directly into the community, we’re helping to reduce long wait times for imaging and ensuring more people have access to early cancer detection.”

FHCSD also provides year-round access to mammograms, clinical breast exams and cervical cancer screenings through its Mammography Mobile Screening Unit (MMSU), which travels to neighborhoods throughout San Diego County. This includes a new partnership with Chula Vista libraries, aimed at reaching even more residents with convenient, local care.

Community members can support the MMSU and its lifesaving services by making a donation here.
