Family Health Centers of San Diego offers a two-week outpatient elective rotation in family medicine for fourth-year medical students.
The rotation is based at the Family Medicine Residency Clinic at City Heights Family Health Center. Students are paired with senior residents or family medicine teaching faculty and gain experience providing primary care to medically underserved populations served by FHCSD.
Students also attend weekly didactic sessions with family medicine residents on Wednesday afternoons.
AY 2026–27 rotation dates
The elective rotation is two weeks in length and is offered from July through early October. Rotation dates for the 2026–27 academic year are:
- July 13–24, 2026
- July 27 – August 7, 2026
- August 10–21, 2026
- August 24 – September 4, 2026
- September 7–18, 2026
- September 21 – October 2, 2026
There is high demand for this rotation, with only six two-week elective slots available each year.
