Meet the Psychiatry Residency Program Class of 2029 at Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD). Explore resident biographies, educational backgrounds and professional interests as they train to serve diverse communities.

Downing, Devin

Devin Downing, D.O.A.T. Still University of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona

Dr. Devin Downing grew up in Temecula, California. He plans to practice in the community setting and finds various other psychiatry subspecialties equally enticing. He hopes to incorporate as many subspecialties into his career as possible, including addiction, adolescent and interventional psychiatry.

Most of his spare time is spent hiking or going to the beach with his wife and son. He also writes and publishes fantasy novels as a passion project. This year, he published the final installment of his debut series, «The Adamic Trilogy.» His next project will be a dystopian sci-fi standalone inspired by Brandon Sanderson’s «Mistborn» series. When he needs to relax, he reads Brandon Sanderson or plays video games. His favorite games include Overwatch and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Hernandez, Marisol

Marisol Hernandez, D.O.A.T. Still University of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona

Dr. Marisol Hernandez is from Pomona, California. She is interested in working with underrepresented communities and increasing access to mental health services while providing language-concordant care. Her interests include addiction medicine, cultural psychiatry, consultation liaison and geriatric psychiatry. In her spare time, she likes to travel, read, discover new restaurants/coffee shops and enjoy sunsets at the beach with her husband and golden retriever, Dottie. A fun fact about Dr. Hernandez is that she likes to plan travel itineraries.

Alexander Johnson, M.D., Psychiatry resident

Alexander Johnson, M.D.Indiana University School of Medicine

Originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Dr. Alexander Johnson is interested in all areas of psychiatry, with no specific focus on one area. He’s also deeply interested in community, public and global health. In the future, Dr. Johnson hopes to work as a clinician with local communities and contribute to meaningful projects.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Johnson is a self-described serial hobbyist. He’s especially passionate about Latin dancing — particularly salsa and bachata — which he has practiced for over a decade. He has taught, choreographed and performed at universities, congresses and film festivals. His other hobbies include climbing, reading, skiing, kitesurfing, exercising, traveling and staying socially connected. He’s also learning to play the piano.

Sakshi Soti, D.O., Psychiatry resident

Sakshi Soti, D.O.Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine

Dr. Sakshi Soti was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India and raised in the Bay Area after immigrating to San Francisco at the age of 2. Dr. Soti is interested in pursuing operational child and adolescent psychiatry. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, New York Times crossword puzzles, traveling and jogging with her border collie and fiancée. Her interest in jogging started in medical school after she adopted her puppy and it inspired her to complete her first half marathon. She aims to do a half marathon in San Diego. A fun fact about Dr. Soti is that she has travelled to 20 different countries.

Jin Su, M.D., Psychiatry resident

Jin Su, M.D.University of California, San Diego School of Medicine

Dr. Jin Su was born and raised in San Diego, California. Due to her experience in San Diego, she is excited to be a resource to her fellow residents who are new to the area. She is interested in many psychiatry specialties including child and adolescent, cultural, community/public and medical education. In her free time, Dr. Su likes to read, thrift, cook, knit, travel and hike with her adorable rescue Shih Tzu. Prior to medical school she worked as a middle school science teacher in Southeast San Diego which sparked her curiosity for child development.

Anthony Tran, M.D., Psychiatry resident

Anthony Tran, M.D.University of Colorado School of Medicine

Dr. Anthony Tran is from Garden Grove, California and a proud Vietnamese American. He is primarily interested in community and cultural psychiatry, particularly in immigrant and refugee health, LGBTQ+ health and individuals experiencing homelessness. He also wants to learn more about psychotherapy, neuromodulation, geriatrics and addiction. Going to medical school in Colorado taught him that there is nothing he enjoys more than snowboarding. He also loves playing basketball, thrifting and eating and plans to learn how to play tennis, golf and surf. A fun fact about Dr. Tran is that he owns 11 snowboards.
