The Laura Rodriguez Medical Institute (LRMAI) was honored to host State Senator Steve Padilla for a tour of our facilities in late February. Senator Padilla had the opportunity to see both the classroom and the hands-on learning environment where students practice clinical skills, such as measuring vital signs. In a conversation with staff and current students, Senator Padilla highlighted the importance of workforce development programs like LRMAI for the San Diego community.

Pauline Lucatero, vice president of community affairs at FHCSD and chief academic administrator at LRMAI, said, “We are extremely proud of both our students and alumni. During Senator Padilla’s visit, two of our students had the opportunity to share about their experiences in the program, including what they are currently learning in their externships at FHCSD clinics. We look forward to our next cohort of 39 students graduating in late March and beginning their journeys as medical assistants.”
