FHCSD is proud of our service to the LGBTQ community and our recent designation as a Healthcare Equality Leader by the Human Rights Campaign. We are one of the largest providers of comprehensive HIV prevention, outreach, testing and supportive services in San Diego County. Our Night Clinic has gained State and Federal notoriety as a best practice model for increasing access to culturally appropriate STI screening and treatment for gay and bisexual men, and monitored hormone therapy for our transgender patients. Additionally, our LGBTQ-competent staff offers health services designed for gay men of color, PrEP navigation and transgender-informed health care. Over the past few years we have invested significant funds to bring LGBTQ training to our clinical and behavioral health service teams.

This year, we demonstrated our dedication to serving the LGBTQ community by hosting a contingent in the San Diego Pride Parade, along with over 250 other corporations and community organizations. We were proud to reach our goal of 100 participants in the first day of sign-up! Ultimately, 198 FHCSD employees volunteered to march in the Parade. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Since 1975, Maximus has enabled citizens around the globe to successfully engage with their governments at all levels and across a variety of health and human services programs. As the philanthropic arm of MAXIMUS, the Foundation extends the mission of the company by identifying and awarding grants to partners with specialized expertise to deliver results within the same populations and communities served by the public programs the company operates.

FHCSD has been rewarded a $5,000 grant from the Maximus Foundation for our Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) program, which makes caring, affordable, high-quality health care available to people across San Diego County who would not otherwise have access. We are proud to be recognized by Maximus for our contributions to support the growth and development of local communities.

As part of our mission to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to all San Diegans, we are proud to announce the addition of urgent care services. Our first urgent care clinic opens at Logan Heights Family Health Center, on July 30 and will provide care from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Our urgent care services include treatment for:

• Cough, cold and flu
• Headaches
• Sore throats
• Fever, earaches, sinus infections
• Allergies and asthma
• Minor burns, skin rashes
• Cuts, bruises, scrapes
• Sprains, minor broken bones
• Adult immunizations
• Pain

We understand it can be hard to get same day appointments, and weekends and evenings are even harder. Our clinic is here to serve our community’s urgent medical needs on a walk-in, no appointment needed basis.

FHCSD is always working to meet the evolving needs our patients.

Family Health Centers of San Diego is always working to improve our programs and services to better care for our patients. If you would like to help in this mission, we are currently looking for the following donations:

• A small, new or used recreational vehicle to go into the community to provide individuals with harm reduction education, case management, referrals to drug treatment and detoxification services.
• New or gently loved children’s books for the Reach Out and Read Program.
• New or gently loved baby items and disposable diapers for the Baby Boutique.
• Twin size blankets, socks, shower shoes, personal size hygiene products, new pillows, adult undergarments and multi-blade razors for our patients experiencing homelessness.
