You can make a difference as a volunteer.

The Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) Volunteer Services Program was launched in 2015 to support our mission of providing caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, as well as enhance our connection to the community. Becoming a FHCSD volunteer not only changes the lives of others but makes a remarkable impact on your life as well.

Serve your community, meet new people and assist in a wide variety of meaningful programs at one of our community clinics and locations. We have countless ways you can help throughout San Diego.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q How do I get selected to be a volunteer?

You will be evaluated based upon your application, participation in the information session and your interview with the department.

Q Can I choose the area or department to volunteer in?

Our goal is to provide assistance where it is most needed. We cannot guarantee specific departments, but we work hard to accommodate your main interests.

Q Can I receive a letter of confirmation regarding my volunteer hours to use for school applications or employment opportunities?

After you complete the minimum commitment of 100 hours, we can provide a letter that reflects which department or departments you were assigned, what your duties/responsibilities were, start date and end date (or if you are still active), and how many hours you volunteered. This is the extent of information that we can provide.

Q Does volunteering improve my chances of getting a job at FHCSD?

Although volunteerism is a great way to gain experience, utilize existing skills and understand the culture of FHCSD, it does not improve your chances or guarantee you will get a job at FHCSD. Volunteers must go through the same application and interview process as general applicants.

Q Do volunteers need to be vaccinated?

The COVID-19 vaccine is required for all new staff members and volunteers, effective August 1, 2021. Exceptions will be considered for disability or medical conditions, or sincerely held religious beliefs. Family Health Centers of San Diego is taking this necessary step to keep the patients we serve and the people we work with safe.
