SAN DIEGO, CA – (April 28, 2020) Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) received a $10,000 donation from the American Chinese Culture and Education Foundation (ACCEF) and their supporters. The donation included $5,000 in cash and $5,000 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE), including N95 respirators, masks, protective coverall suits, goggles and hand sanitizer.
“This much-needed donation of PPE comes at a time when we are ramping up our testing efforts, which started yesterday at Chula Vista Family Health Center,” said Fran Butler-Cohen, CEO, Family Health Centers of San Diego. “The American Chinese Culture and Education Foundation has helped keep our medical professionals safe in communities across the County. We are extremely grateful for their extraordinary philanthropy during this health care crisis.”
As the largest health care provider for the uninsured in the County, FHCSD serves more than 210,000 individuals through nearly one million visits annually. Screening, testing and treatment of those who are mildly or moderately ill helps to ensure emergency rooms and hospitals have the resources they need to treat the most severe cases of COVID-19.
Additional testing locations will last one week each, starting at Diamond Neighborhoods Family Health Center on May 4, followed by El Cajon Family Health Center on May 11 and Logan Heights Family Health Center on May 18. Testing is available for FHCSD patients (18 or older) with no appointment required; however, the number of tests available each day is limited, and patients are encouraged to arrive early as testing supplies are limited.
