Are you currently exposed to cigarette smoke inside your home? Is there at least one person in your home who smokes sand at least one nonsmoker who lives with you? If you answered “yes” to these questions, you may be eligible to participate in a program offered at no cost designed to help you make your home a healthier environment.
Smoke-Free Homes is a free program offered by Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego and funded by the California Department of Public Health. The goal of the program is to encourage smokers to take their smoking outside the home to protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke. Participants can enroll as smokers or nonsmokers, as long as there is at least one smoker and one nonsmoker living in the home prior to participation and enrollment. There are no required home visits or classes to attend and no income requirements for participation. Participation in the program is also open to households with or without children.
Participants in the Smoke-Free Homes Program are eligible to receive up to $50 in merchandise cards for retailers such as a $25 Staples, $25 Office Depot, $20 Starbucks or $20 Subway card as well as interactive educational materials.
Whether you rent or own your home, apartment, condo unit or reside in another form of housing, the Smoke-Free Homes program invites you to call today if secondhand smoke exposure is affecting your home environment.
Please contact the Smoke-Free Homes Outreach Worker at (619) 287-9454, ext. 2157 to see if you qualify for participation. We look forward to hearing from you.
