Over 500 “Healthy Heroes” Attend FHCSD Event

sherman fair
On March 19, Sherman Heights Family Health Center partnered with Sherman Heights Community Center to host a “Healthy Heroes Youth Wellness Fair.” It featured dental and vision screenings, Zumba performances, proclamations from the office of Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, Senator Ben Hueso and Supervisor Greg Cox, booths by 20 community partners, several raffle drawings and kids’ activities, including sack races. This first-time event was a success with over 500 people in attendance and showcased how FHCSD clinics do not just exist in the communities they serve, but become fully integrated to truly be the “neighborhood’s clinic.” To learn more about our upcoming community events, please view ourEvents Calendar.  Schedule time with a provider at a FHCSD clinic near you by calling (619) 515-2300.

FHCSD is now offering chiropractic services at its Diamond Neighborhoods Family Health Center location. Chiropractors are specially trained medical professionals who use a variety of treatments to alleviate back pain, neck pain or pain in the limbs or joints. Chiropractic treatments have also been found to be helpful in treating headaches, arthritic issues, jaw problems, vertigo and more. If you have Medi-Cal and are an established FHCSD patient, meet with a provider by calling (619) 515-2300 to see if a referral to chiropractic services can help you.

Whatever the motivation  behind a volunteer raising his or her hand to offer support, his or her time and energy is appreciated by nonprofit organizations every day, including FHCSD. Over the past few decades, many generous individuals have donated their time to FHCSD, helping our organization in terms of operational efficiency, cost-savings and quality of service. In 2015, we were excited to launch a volunteer program to formally organize these generous individuals and offer them even more service openings. Family Health Centers of San Diego CEO Fran Butler-Cohen
In this month’s CEO’s Corner column, FHCSD CEO Fran Butler-Cohen encourages the public to receive regular colorectal screenings. She notes, “Most people wouldn’t think about driving their cars without adequate tire pressure or driving past the 50,000-mile inspection point, but they ignore a simple medical procedure, done only every five to 10 years, that can literally protect their lives.” Read her entire commentary on our FamilyHealth Online blog.
