Our Homeless Services and Healthcare for the Homeless program reduce barriers and increase access to quality health care to those experiencing homelessness. Services are available at all Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) clinic sites, including our three Mobile Medical Units and Housing Navigation Center.
Our clinics are often located near, or within, partner transitional housing programs, including organizations that focus on veterans, youth and families. We are also proud to support the National Health Care for the Homeless Council’s mission to eliminate homelessness by ensuring health care and secure housing for everyone.

Insurance Enrollment Assistance+
Certified Enrollment Specialists are available at all of our clinic sites to assist patients with insurance enrollment in Medi-Cal or Covered California. Medi-Cal enrollment ensures access to a full scope of medical care, continuous care and support compliance with care. Staff is also available to come on-site to service organizations to help enroll community members or provide presentations about our comprehensive homeless services.

2020 Medi-Cal Expansion+
Full coverage Medi-Cal services are now available to young adults between ages 19 to 26, regardless of legal residency status, as long as they meet income and other eligibility requirements. Full coverage Medi-Cal includes primary care, dental and vision services, as well as some specialty care.
Medi-Cal services have also expanded to cover new childhood screening programs to support healthy growth and development.
Mental Health & Counseling+
Our warm and caring mental health services staff provides support to the health of the whole body, including physical, emotional and mental well-being. Whether you need someone to talk to or are seeking care for emotional and psychological disorders, our trained clinicians employ behavioral therapies and evidence-based practices to get you the help you need.

We deliver high-quality and affordable primary care services that meet the full spectrum of our patients’ wellness needs. From treating chronic health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma, to offering mental health services for those who may need someone to talk to, we focus on providing compassionate care for the entire body.

Restorative Dental Program+
Dental health affects our physical health, nutrition, self-esteem and our opportunities for employment and self-sufficiency. Through this unique program, extensive dental work, including partials/dentures, is provided to eligible participants.
Participants must have been homeless, sober and living in San Diego for a minimum of six months.

Substance Use Disorder Counseling+
Our substance use disorder services staff and counselors work closely with the medical providers in our clinics to support patients in developing and completing personalized plans to reduce the negative physical and psychological impacts of drugs and alcohol. For those in need of additional support, we offer a structured outpatient substance use disorder program. Our services are flexible to meet each client’s unique needs and type of care after discharge.

- Basic vision exam and glasses are covered once every two years
- Contact lenses are not covered

Assistance for HIV-Positive Persons+
As the largest provider of HIV and hepatitis treatment and prevention services in the region, we believe in a client-centered approach that takes the whole individual into consideration when discussing prevention or treatment. We provide a variety of HIV and hepatitis testing, support-and-education activities and services, and we pride ourselves on working with community partners for referrals and resources.
